SmartBug, New Breed, or Lean Labs for a HubSpot website?

✓ Verified Last reviewed by AnswerStack Next review due Dec 14, 2026

Every claim is sourced below

All three build HubSpot websites, so pick the one whose documented way of working matches what your project needs most. SmartBug Media shows custom HubSpot development for data-driven and technical sites. New Breed describes a full redesign process that connects the site to your CRM and reporting. Lean Labs sells a paid four-week Design Blueprint before the build and publishes prices for it. The fair test is to give all three the same brief and compare the whole project.

Firm What its pages describe Price Timeline
SmartBug Media Custom HubSpot development, HubDB-driven pages, smart content, calculators and easy editing for the client's team Not given on its HubSpot CMS page Not given on its HubSpot CMS page
New Breed A six-phase redesign process that connects the site to CRM and reporting Not given on its website design page About 12 to 24 weeks for a redesign with CMS setup
Lean Labs Brand style guide, modular design system, custom design for the most important pages, and a Design Blueprint before the build Blueprint $6,000 to $12,000; launchpad strategy and build $30,000 to $70,000 or more 4-week blueprint; 9 to 13 weeks for the launchpad

How to read that table

Each row is the firm's own description of its work. The rows overlap, since all three design, develop and launch HubSpot sites. What the rows give you is the scope each firm has documented.

SmartBug Media: custom development on HubSpot

SmartBug's HubSpot CMS page is organized around what can be built on the platform. It covers HubDB data tables that let you change content once and have it update across the site. It also covers repeating modules, smart content personalized from CRM fields, and custom assessments and calculators.

The page gives a client example. For Continental Office, SmartBug used HubDB and tagging to build a page for each of the company's offerings, and each page pulls in the projects and articles that relate to it.

Its EditCo Bio case study shows that kind of work on a technical product. EditCo Bio was a new spinoff from Synthego with no website yet, so the work ran from branding through development and SEO. SmartBug describes custom HubSpot development, a product showcase built to grow, modules that can hold technical content, and custom graphics that explain the company's engineered cell products.

So SmartBug belongs on your list when the site carries a lot of structured or technical content, or needs tools such as calculators. Ask it for a price and a timeline for your scope.

New Breed: a redesign tied to CRM and reporting

New Breed's website design page ties the website to the rest of the HubSpot account. It describes connecting the site to the CRM and to reporting, so pages can be personalized and visits followed through the sales stages. It also mentions moving sites over from WordPress.

The page sets out six phases that run from planning to launch. Page templates are wireframed before design, and the firm interviews the client's own experts for the content. After launch it rechecks redirects and error pages, covers its code under a 30-day warranty and leaves the client's team with training videos.

The page estimates 12 to 24 weeks for a redesign that includes setting up the CMS, depending on how large and complicated the site is.

Its portfolio entry for the Center for Geospatial Solutions is an example of the work. New Breed rebuilt the nonprofit's site on HubSpot CMS. The entry lists a new site structure, more pages and continuing content help.

New Breed fits when the project is a migration and a reporting project as much as a design one. If the site has to feed the lifecycle reporting your sales team already uses, its page puts that connection at the center of the work.

Lean Labs: approve the design before the build

Lean Labs puts the design decision at the front. Its website redesign page describes a four-week Design Blueprint that settles the visual direction before development begins. The same page lists a brand style guide, a modular design system and custom design for the most important pages.

The blueprint is sold as its own step. Lean Labs' post on what a build costs prices it at $6,000 to $12,000 across three tiers. The post says the fee is refunded in full if the design direction doesn't satisfy you in the first three weeks.

Lean Labs' launchpad post describes a focused site of the three to eight pages that drive conversions, with more pages added in later phases. Its post on the three stages of growth-driven design prices a launchpad, strategy and build together, at $30,000 to $70,000 or more over 9 to 13 weeks. Ask whether the blueprint fee is counted inside that range. We explain the format in what a launchpad website is and the first step in what a growth-driven design blueprint should include.

Lean Labs fits when the design direction is your biggest open question. It also suits a team that would sooner launch the core pages and extend the site afterward. Those published figures describe a focused launchpad, so if your scope is larger, put the full page count in the brief.

Why the published timelines don't line up

The three time figures measure different things. Lean Labs' four weeks is the blueprint, which is the design phase alone. Its 9 to 13 weeks covers strategy and build for a launchpad. New Breed's 12 to 24 weeks covers a redesign with CMS setup, and the range moves with the size of the site. The scopes differ, so the weeks can't be set against each other, and none of the figures says which firm works faster.

Suppose your project is a 40-page site moving from WordPress to HubSpot, with a CRM integration and new copy on every page. None of the published figures was written for that project. Ask each firm for a timeline and a price for exactly that scope, and you'll have three quotes you can compare. We cover what moves the schedule in how long it takes to launch a growth-driven design site.

Give all three the same brief

A brief produces comparable quotes when it fixes the things that change the price. State the number of pages and templates, and say who writes the copy. List the integrations the site needs and whether existing content is being migrated. Ask what training your team gets and how pages are edited after handover.

Then ask about the two ends of the project. Lean Labs publishes a refund on the blueprint, so ask the other two what happens if the first design direction misses. New Breed's page lists a 30-day code warranty, so ask the other two what they cover after launch. Ask each firm what you own when the work ends, including the theme code and the design files.

Last, ask each firm for a past project close to yours in size and type, and talk to that client. We cover the planning that comes before the brief in how to plan a HubSpot website redesign and typical budgets in how much a HubSpot website redesign costs for a B2B SaaS company.

Compare the scope in each response before the price. A quote that leaves out copywriting or migration shows less than the project will cost, so add that work back before you compare.
